BMX SA Press Release

The South Australian Bicycle Motocross Association (BMX SA) are pleased to announce that the 29th South Australian Open BMX State Championships are being hosted by THE COVE BMX CLUB on 21st & 22nd February 2009.

BMX SA is pleased to welcome Avanti Bicycle Development (ABD) once again as the naming rights partner for the State Championships.  ABD’s racing program supports riders all over Australia & NZ.  Current ABD elite sponsored riders are SARAH WALKER, NZ, who earned a very respectable fourth place in the BMX Elite Women's Olympic final and our own local Champions MICHAEL FENWICK & MATT WILLOUGHBY.  Michael, former Junior World Champion and Matt, former Junior Probikx Champion, will both be attending the event heading up the AAPro Class.

Visit www.avantibikes.com for more information.

Local Avanti Specialist – JT Cycles sponsors the ABD SA Junior Team with team mascot, KIARNA GREEN- 7yo Sprocket, heading up an impressive lineup.  National Champions THOMAS ROWE – AA Pro and CALOB GREEN – 13 Boys are joined by State Podium finishers LIAM HOWDEN – 14 Boys and JORDAN GREEN – 15 Boys.  TAHNEE ROWE and JAKE FOSTER complete the team lineup competing in the Pro Classes.

Visit www.jtcycles.com.au for more information.

The host venue, The Cove BMX Club, located at the COVE SPORTS & COMMUNITY COMPLEX, OVAL ROAD, off LONSDALE HIGHWAY, HALLETT COVE in the City of Marion, was built in 1982 and has hosted 5 successful State Championships since 1984.

The newly revamped track is challenging with exciting new obstacles.  New canteen facilities, new toilet block and an automatic track watering system using recycled water are some of the innovations coming to fruition at The Cove prior to this event.

The week-long festivities will begin on Sunday 15th February with The Cove hosting a Pre-Title meeting and the official program kicks off on Wednesday, 18th February with a Pre-Title twilight meeting.  This will follow with Coaching Clinics on Thursday and practice sessions on Friday.  Saturday 21st February will begin first thing in the morning with Round 4 of the Australian Probikx/Champbikx National Tour that has attracted National and State Teams from all over Australia.

Saturday afternoon will see the Official Opening of the South Australian State Championships, proudly sponsored by ABD, Department of Recreation & Sport & Be Active and Rush Industries, and followed with a March Past of all SA Clubs.  Racing will begin on the Saturday for Cruisers (24”) classes, Pro cruiser classes and Sprocket (under 5 to 7 years old) classes and their presentations.

This format will allow riders racing in the Probikx/Champbikx round to rest on Saturday and then compete in the Open State Championships on the Sunday.

Sunday will continue with the State Championships for all Challenge classes (20”) and the 20” Pro classes.  The total prizemoney for the Pro classes is $3,200 and will showcase the best riders in our State.  Classes include – AA Pro Male, A Pro Male & Pro Ladies. Presentations for these classes and presentation of the SA Officials Choice Perpetual trophy will conclude the weekend.
